Sydney | No CommentsRecently I started using Ortho-K contact lenses. They are worn overnight and taken out in the morning. The cornea is correctively reshaped, but the effect is only temporary as it will revert back if not worn for a couple of days. My single pair will last 2 years.
To add to the growing list of expenditures, I will be getting dental loupes soon. Luckily I do not need to worry about getting a prescription!
Gone are the days of waving at the wrong person, fumbling for glasses in the depths of my backpack and the occasional scramble to find lost glasses. Sure, the insertion and removal procedures are uncomfortable and will add an extra 5 to 10 minutes to my daily schedule, but I think the freedom is well worth it. I have not seen this clearly without glasses for over a decade.
Tonight I will be boarding a plane back to Adelaide. As first year dental students we were a bit spoilt. In our second year there will be late night classes, more assignments and an ever tighter schedule. Au revoir, Sydney!

Adelaide, Birthdays, Eating Out, Family, Friends, Sydney | No CommentsIn the morning, I awoke to find a chocolate cake baked by my housemates. How sweet of them!
Then when I left I caught Rav walking out on his way to university with another cake (which I later discovered was also chocolate!).
During our lunch break I cut the cake and my large group of friends presented me with my gifts and sang ‘Happy Birthday.’ I felt very loved indeed.
You would be surprised to know that I celebrated my nineteenth a month ago back in Sydney with my family, with the first of three birthday cakes and a dinner at Thai Pothong.
Thank you everyone (in particular Liz, Rav and Sara)! You made my day.
Now, fingers crossed I win the lottery — the ticket would be the best present from my parents.

Yesterday I went to MasterChef Live at Hordern Pavilion.
I won a festival pass through an ABE’s Real Bagels competition. What do you think of my response?
To go in the draw…tell us your favourite way to serve up ABE’S Bagel Crisps.
What I love to do is crack each bagel into four or five pieces and sandwich them between thick wholegrain bread for extra crunch. I’d add French remoulade on top of assorted salad leaves and a small fish fillet for that zinging taste. ABE’s bagels use superior ingredients so my burgers are fresh but incredibly tasty.
