My Eighteenth Birthday


I am legally an adult. It appears to me that my milestones in cognisance have occurred at six-year intervals since birth. While the degree in which I am dependent on my parents cannot be denied, I also realise that they also need me when it comes to the small things in their everyday lives. It is this privilege that I have earned gradually over the years, and this day alone marks in no way my immediate coming of age.

Summer Holidays 2008


Nearing the end of my aunt’s radiotherapy treatment, we found these holidays to be a wise time to visit her in Melbourne.

The first time Aunty Hang took off her wig, I was grief-stricken to see her hairless head. In retrospect, I know I have always overlooked the emotional aspect of cancer diagnosis. Thus since seeing my aunt, I have been committed to living a more meaningful life.
