My Sixteenth Birthday

I don’t want to be 16 — it’s too big a number.

But time sure does pass by quickly — I’m 16 (!). My birthday was on the 24th of May, a Saturday, but activities were stretched out as follows:

  • Friday — went out for dinner
  • Saturday — watched Indiana Jones
  • Monday — friends organised a little party at school

Friday

My paternal grandpa, parents and I ate at Dynasty in Belmore.

The dinner we had compared nothing to the usual yum cha lunch menu there. I did find my bowl of shark fin soup alright though, but then again it costed $18.90 (!).

It was awkward taking photographs as the waiters looked at me like hawks every time I pulled my camera out.

Saturday (my birthday)

“It’s okay, we can take them in,” admonished Dad when he saw me trying to hide the bags of McDonald’s from view. So I gave up the stuttering, bag-scrunching desperation. I foolishly listened.

“Sorry, we can’t actually let you guys in with the Maccas,” said the Reading Cinemas Auburn employee as I stepped up to get our tickets checked.

Running to the car, then back again, I found I wasn’t too late as the advertisements were still screening. But it was 1 o’clock — and 1 o’clock is my lunchtime!!! I felt bloody voracious, stuffing down sugar-free mints for placation every time my stomach rumbled. Two hours’ starvation made me light-headed.

Now, back to the film. The plot line of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is mediocre, but the special effects are excellent. Something that bewilders me is why in 1957 there’d be Soviets treasure hunting in South America.

Arriving home, I was delighted to see the quaint jelly birthday cake, which I insisted Mum make, and presents arranged around it.

I received from my parents very useful items: red envelope money, a purse and watch. :D

Monday

Joanna baked a really cute Mickey Mouse cake for me; and it was cut into ten. I absolutely adore the presents my friends gave me!!!

I love the Wara Wara rabbit and especially the kimmidoll (named Yumi). She’s actually rather small, by the way, making her all the more cute.

Oh, and Karen added in a Bratz poster magazine, purporting that she thought I’d like it. Well…thanks Karen. (I don’t want to make it seem like I wasted your efforts.) :)

Can’t believe you deleted your first entries. They were awesome, or at least our comments were :(
lol, I don’t remember anything from viet school, and I find it hard communicating even to my parents, but I can still read and understand everything!
Nice food pics though. You should have whipped out your camera james bond style and said: “KYMULEH, PUBLIC HEALTH INSPECTOR”
