Yummy Seafood Restaurant
July 28th, 2009We were meant to go to Thai Pothong for dinner but because of the traffic Dad arrived home late. Instead, we went to Yummy Seafood Restaurant on the Hume Highway for their signature dish — fried lobster and noodles. We asked them for their “smallest” lobster, but little did we know that it weighed 1.6 kg…
The three of us were promptly seated at a nice, cosy corner by a Vietnamese-speaking waiter. Two dishes were ordered: a combination tofu hotpot and a plate of fried lobster and crispy egg noodles. We snacked on the pickled vegetables and salted peanuts in the short time it took them to cook up our “small” lobster.

The lobster was priced at around $63 per kilo while the stint bed of crispy egg noodles was $10. I must admit that I do not like expensive seafood (abalone, shark fin, lobster, v.v…), but I understand why this is Yummy Seafood Restaurant’s specialty. When we finished this plate we were already satiated. But of course there was the hotpot. It was mediocre (perhaps because of our full stomachs) but reasonably priced at $18. I was admonished against requesting a takeaway container, so my frugality caused an overdose.
Complimentary dessert was mung beans and a small fruit platter of rockmelon and grapes. Parsimony struck at me again…I had trouble walking out the door. Since that night I have learnt a valuable lesson that $4 worth of rice or fearing embarrassment is not worth it. Next time I’ll ask for a takeaway container and for the size of the lobster (if my parents somehow convince me to eat it again).

Lobster and noodles is definitely a Death Row meal. That has happened to us a couple of times when their smallest could feed double the people (but I was kind of happy about that too
